NTM survey overview
After receiving a formal request from Colombia’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism (Vice ministry of Foreign Trade), the survey on NTMs in Colombia was launched in February 2014, with ITC experts visiting Colombia to train interviewers, meet with stakeholders and monitor the launch of interviews. The survey was implemented in collaboration with Universidad del Rosario’s Centre for the Development of Competitive Strategies (CEPEC).
The survey seeks to shed light on trade barriers faced by Colombian firms and to identify potential bottlenecks inhibiting trade. This information will allow the public and private sectors to better understand the current business environment and to identify concrete actions to promote the development of Colombian firms and the competitiveness of exports.
More than 700 enterprises were interviewed between February and May 2014 by Universidad del Rosario. Companies reported burdensome NTMs and other obstacles to trade they face in Colombia and abroad. Responses are strictly confidential with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism being presented only with a summary of anonymized results.
