NTM survey overview
In the framework of ITC non-tariff measures (NTMs) and at the request of Ministry of Industry, Trade and Small and medium-sized enterprises of Benin, a company survey is being implemented in Benin in order to identify and better understand burdensome NTMs faced by the private sector. The survey will be conducted by a local survey company (Afrique Conseil) from December 2014 to Q3 2015. Around 500 Beninese exporters and importers are expected to be interview regarding their experiences with non-tariff measures.
In this context, ITC organised a launch of the survey from 08th to 12th December 2014 consisting of a technical training of the local survey company and the implementation of the first interviews.
A stakeholder meeting with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Small and medium-sized enterprises (MICPE), trade support institutions and private companies was held to present the project and discuss its implementation in the country.
National round-table on non-tariff measures
Following the end of the survey a national round-table is organized by ITC and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Handicraft of Benin (MICA) on 5 October 2016 to discuss how to overcome trade impediments related to non-tariff measures (NTMs).
The meeting will gather representatives of the government institutions and the private sector to take stock of the survey findings and discuss ways to overcome the identified obstacles. Three main topics will be discussed: 1/ Product requirements and conformity assessment; 2/ Rules of origin, export authorisations and other trade rules; 3/ Inspections, taxes and others customs’ formalities.
